“A beautiful day in the hills
of Tuscany!”
Kelly and I were searching for months for the best truffle hunt we could find
(as we are "foodies" and love truffles) during our beautiful stay in Tuscany and
we found it. We were staying at the St. Regis Florence. The driver took us to
the La Limonaia that was only about a 30 minute drive from Florence. We meet
Giulio, Cristina and Eda at about 10:00 a.m. at the “Truffle House”. It was so
beautiful, picturesque and quaint. The rolling hills surrounding the house were
beautiful, filled with olive trees, grape vines, it was so beautiful warm and
inviting. Giulio was very accommodating with my request to have a private hunt
for my Kelly and me. The hunt could not have been more perfect. We started with
a tour of the house and grounds and then retreated to the “Truffle House” for a
glass of wine and a breakfast appetizer with Giulio and Cristina, followed by a
very informative tutorial on Truffles. When it came time for our hunt, Giulio,
Eda, Kelly and I went off into the beautiful hills of Tuscany. It was very
exciting to watch Eda maneuver through the forest and sniff out the best
Truffles we have ever tasted. We spent about two hours hunting, Eda and Giuilo
found us both black and white truffles. Then it was back to the “Truffle House”
where Giulio weighed what truffles we found that day and proceeded to teach us
how to clean, treat, store and slice our truffles, during which time, Cristina
prepared us the best lunch we had during our 10 days in Tuscany. It was a seven
course meal with some of the most superb wines we had during our trip, it was a
perfect wine paring with every course. The entire meal was exquisite. We spent
most of the day with Giuilo, Cristina and Eda and had one of the best times on
any vacation that we have ever been on. I would recommend this to anyone
visiting Tuscany as it is truly an adventure. Gary Mazurek Plano, TX |

"Truffle Hunt - Amazing Experience!”
Reviewed November 23, 2010
I work for Lonely Planet and I need to shoot a feature story on truffle hunting
in the Florence area and Giulio was well recommended. Did I ever find the right
guy! Giulio and his dog Edda were fantastic. It's just a short drive from his
beautiful "Truffle House" to the Tuscan hillside where he and Edda hunt for
truffles. It didn't take them long to find some and it made for a great short
film. Giulio makes the perfect guide for anyone curious/passionate about Italian
cuisine, art and of course everything truffle. He is also warm, charming and a
joy to spend time with. I can highly recommend Giulio's truffle hunt as a "must
do" experience while in Tuscany/Florence. The meal (using the truffles found
earlier) was amazing and Christina, the chef is equally charming and quite
talented in the kitchen. It was probably one of my favorite assignments I've
ever done and my best day during my Italy trip. Look for Giulio and Edda's video
on lonelyplanet.com in a few months!

"Soooo good !!”
Reviewed September 14, 2011
We visited Guilio and his partner Christina for their truffle hunting and of
course eating experience on our trip to Florence. I have nothing but exclamation
marks to add to previous reviews. Guilio is a wonderful host and he offers a
unique experience which I will always remember . To hear about the history of
his own experience with truffle hunting and to watch him hunting truffles with
his dog Edda in the forest behind their beautiful home was fascinating. On our
return Christina had prepared a wonderful lunch for us which we ate after Guilio
showed us how to prepare the truffles for eating. These were generously shaved
over every course and we finished the meal with ice cream covered with truffles
honey and shaved fresh truffles . Decadent! Guile's truffle hunting tour is easy
to organize ,great value and so memorable . I am so glad we did this. |

“Incredible place to stay in
Tuscany!”
Reviewed May 13, 2010
My wife and I chose the honeymoon package at La Limonaia after reading all of
the wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed! Our stay at La
Limonaia was exactly how we pictured our Tuscan honeymoon. We wanted to
experience the rolling hills and smaller towns of Tuscany but still have access
to all of the history and culture of Florence and the honeymoon package was the
perfect compromise. The castle wine tasting tour and the truffle hunting tour
were both between 45 minutes to an hour drive from La Limonaia and provided
absolutely beautiful views along the way. The tours were outstanding and we had
a ton of fun. If you are at all interested in truffle hunting (we had no idea
what it was but all it took was smelling a jar of truffles to convince us we
were going) make sure to give this tour a try. We went walking through the
country side with two specially trained dogs that were able to sniff out
truffles ranging in size from a tiny pebble to the size of a tennis ball. Then
we went back to the truffle factory and had an excellent meal that was prepared
with the truffles we had just found. It was very cool and an experience we will
always remember. |

“Nostalgia”
Reviewed April 12, 2010
It is exactly two years since my 19 year old son and 12 year old daughter and I
stayed at the exquisitely beautiful La Limonaia. We have been reminiscing and
looking at photos - Giulio and Cristina were not only the perfect hosts - they
were our friends, lively conversationalists and accommodated every need to
ensure we all had a good time. The postcard pretty views over Firenze from La
Limonaia are better than anything a travel agent could imagine. Huge, elegant
and clean rooms, fresh air and unique hospitality - all a stones throw from the
hub of Firenze. We loved your sense of humour Giulio and without a doubt, it was
the best place we stayed while we were in Italy. We wish we were there again and
apologies for taking so long to write a well deserved review. |

“Wonderful Way to Experience Tuscany”
Reviewed November 26, 2009
My wife and some other family members recently spent 5 nights at La Limonaia.
Our hosts Christina and Guilio couldn't have been more gracious. Our rooms were
very clean and comfortable. The views overlooking Florence are beautiful and
there is an amazing quiet. There is a a church bell that rings every half hour
that i though would bother us. After a few hours I don't know what happens to
your senses but you can no longer hear it even though its right there. The tours
that Giulio arranged and conducted were the best part of the trip. They were
small and very unique. My favourite was Truffle hunting but he can arrange many
others depending on your interests. I enjoy photography and Giulio gave me
plenty of beautiful opportunities to take some great photos. |
